What is Morningside Singers?
Founded in January, 2009, Morningside Singers is an open-enrollment mixed chorus that rehearses on Thursday evenings from September through May. The choir is open to all interested singers, teens through adults. We emphasize the development of music literacy by incorporating instruction in music notation and sight reading into each rehearsal. This is a great choir for folks who want to experience singing in a choir for the first time, those who are returning to choral singing after a long absence, or experienced singers who want to improve their reading skills. The repertoire of primarily accompanied works includes pieces of easy to medium difficulty. We sing classical works, folk arrangements, shape note tunes, spirituals, and popular songs.
In 2011 all of our tenors and basses either moved away, graduated to Just Voices, or left the choir for other reasons. Pandora, a women’s chorus, is currently taking their place as Just Voices’ “sister choir.”
